Wood pellet storage, conveying & inventory control

Collinson specialise in the design and planning of wood
pellet storage and conveyor systems to suit medium to
large scale installations to heat civic and public buildings
such as schools, hospitals and libraries to name just a few.

Wood pellets are a sustainable source of energy usually made of highly compressed sawdust, just by the nature of manufacture dust can be generated during handling and as such can create a potentially explosive atmosphere.

The silo itself does not have a source of ignition however if any potential source of ignition are fixed to the silo i.e. the boiler, then under ATEX and DSEAR a detailed risk assessment must be carried out by the operator.

With the correct planning, risk assessments and implementation of suitable equipment this is not a problem; there are responsibilities to be undertaken by the supplier, designer and operator of the system.

Collinson provide guidance notes for all involved in the ‘system’ process. In order to specify the most appropriate technology for a project a number of considerations must be taken into account; the Kst and Pmax values of the wood pellets, required silo capacity, silo location, discharge method and proposed equipment layout.

A system can be designed to facilitate your project, we just need to know the facts!
