Independent Schools Applaud Achievement

Posted on by Nichola

Roger Black MBE was the guest keynote speaker at the 2011 ISA’s, hosted by Funding for Independent Schools magazine.  The awards recognise excellence in the strategic and financial management of independent schools in the UK.

Collinson were invited to present the award for Best Independent-Maintained School Collaboration in recognition of an initiative that involves working with state schools, and Sheffield High School GDST were the worthy winners for the second year running.

The school had been awarded a grant through the Independent/State School Partnership for a project with six other schools in Sheffield (five maintained and one independent) to raise the number of sixth-form students applying to Oxbridge.

The project was so successful that, when funding ran out, the schools continued financing the project themselves. Numbers applying to Oxbridge have doubled and successful applications are up by a third.

One of the benefits to SHS of the project has been the extension of collaboration with the maintained schools. It has enabled staff to share good practice, whilst enabling other worthwhile projects to be established, including A level revision classes for all schools in Sheffield run by the PE department.

“Collaboration between schools is increasingly becoming the only way to maximise available funding and facilities” said John Lomas, Sales Manager at Collinson. “Initiatives such as those demonstrated by Sheffield High School are a fantastic example of the sharing of best practice.  We are delighted to support events such as this which celebrate the foresight of schemes which benefit schools and the community at large”
