Doesn’t time come round quickly; it is the Pig & Poultry Fair on the 15th – 16th May 2012. This is a great bi annual show which showcases the latest technology and business information.

Come and see us on Stand 25 in Exhibition Hall 1, we will be exhibiting our New SpinFeeder for broiler breeders together with a range of storage, conveying and feeding equipment for both sectors, don’t miss out on our Special Show Promotion.

We are offering you the chance to turn your feed dust into money by investing in a Cyclone Dust Collector, with models starting from £399 ex works, yes that’s right speculate to accumulate. As reported in Farmers Weekly and a recent BPEX case study; Dorset pig farmer Robert Lasseter utilised a Collinson Cyclone dust collector when filling his 10 silos, his initial motivation was to improve biosecurity against TB and other diseases; the Cyclone successfully resulted in fewer birds around the Silo’s and less evidence of badgers however as an added bonus there was a massive saving in feed.

Robert’s silos are filled every 10 days and he calculated a payback period of only 70 days or 70 bin blows thereafter the savings are cash in his pocket. Robert actually converted his Cyclone static unit to service all 10 silos however the range now includes a very popular mobile version with a quick release connection.

Visit the stand, see the range of Cyclones and have a look at our eStore Kiosk where you will have the opportunity to browse this really useful site estore.collinson.co.uk, if you want to take advantage of the show promotion you can use this facility to order your own Cyclone which is available exclusively online at the special show price of £399 ex works for the static model and £499 ex works for the mobile model until the end of May.

In recogniton of 50 years in business Collinson plc are launching the Collinson 4 Community Fund to support local community initiatives.

50 Years in business is a great milestone, one which local manufacturer Collinson plc is proud to acknowledge. Founded by Ernest Collinson in 1962, locals have seen the company grow from small beginnings manufacturing silos for the farming industry to the diverse company it is today servicing the Agricultural, Biomass and Construction Sectors under the leadership of Roger Collinson. The company is now in its 3rd generation with Daniel and Sam Collinson taking the roles of Joint Managing Directors.

Dan Collinson told us ‘We have always been a keen supporter of community projects but to mark this special anniversary we are launching the Collinson 4 Community, C4C fund which will make cash available to support local community projects.’

The first benefactor of the fund was the 1st Great Eccleston Scout Group who after securing
funding from The Rural Development Programme and Lancashire Environment Fund
needed to raise additional funds to move forward with their project to build a new Scout HQ.

Collinson was one of the supporting companies who helped to turn their dreams to reality. Saturday 17th March saw the official opening of their brand new Hall which will be available for use by the Beavers, Scouts, Cubs and the local community.

Dan added ‘Collinson want to make a difference, giving back to the community which has supported us and our growth over the last 50 years.’

The fund is designed to support and develop local community initiatives, open to all including; schools, groups, charities and voluntary organisations. Applications will be judged on merit by the Directors and an independent team from Collinson with funds being awarded in multiples of £50 in recognition of the anniversary.

‘The beauty of being manufacturers is that we react to market demand, more and more people are now milling and mixing their own feed for a multitude of reasons but with a massive emphasis on biosecurity there was a big need for a secure silo to store the feed once mixed’ said Sally Hayton Marketing Manager ‘With the ability to choose between pneumatic or self fill, TipStor ticks all the boxes’

With increasing importance on biosecurity and farm assurance schemes there has never been so much demand for silos, especially smaller silos to store products previously stored in bags. Moving from bags to bulk not only makes life easier with no manual handling or bag disposal but feeds are usually available at a more competitive price.

TriStor is on the up . . . Since its introduction in 2009 TriStors have been very popular as a competitively priced smaller capacity storage solution with capacities of up to 7.6t of pellets at 650kg/m³. We have recently increased the clearance under the chute to accommodate large snackers/small trailers which we have seen coming to the market. The new multi position telescopic chute makes this silo so versatile with feed easily discharged into bags, a barrow or snacker. Available in kit form for self assembly, models can be collected from our factory in Lancashire or one of our regional hubs* or if you prefer delivered direct to your site, they are transported semi assembled in the upright position, ready for offloading by fork lift. TriStor has definitely proved to be very popular with models starting from only £1875 ex works.

Mr Thompson of Lower Elker Farm, Billington collected his TriStor Snacker silo in
kit form from Collinson and can’t wait to reap the benefits!

‘There were a few reasons we decided to invest in this silo’, Mr Thompson told
Collinson ‘we don’t really struggle with vermin but at this time of the year
with the feed about we would notice them more, storing the feed in the silo
eliminates this’ ‘there is also the pain of getting rid of the bags and because
we can now buy in bulk we are able to get a better price on the feed’

The benefits don’t stop there either, with 550 breeding ewes it gets fairly busy at
this time of year, previously the Thompsons had collected bagged feed from
their local feed suppliers, now it can be delivered and blown directly into the
silo, saving labour, time and the manual handling of the bags.

After having other Collinson silos on a previous farm the Thompsons were familiar
with the quality of Collinson equipment and when they heard about the TriStor
Snacker knew it was ideal for them, ‘We went for the Snacker version, we will
be bagging feed off for now but the telescopic chute and the extra height keeps
our options open for the future’ said Mr Thompson.

Labour saved from not having to collect feed will give the Thompsons more time to
spend with their lambs, perfect!

Mill and mix your own feed, a self fill silo is ideal . . .In response to market demand we have expanded this smaller capacity range to include the newly launched TipStor; ideal if you mill and mix feed yourself or take larger deliveries of feed which can be stored in smaller silos more conveniently located around the farm.

Filling is quickly and easily undertaken using your front end loader or tractor bucket up to a maximum of 8ft wide via a special roof mounted filling attachment. Like the TriStor feed can be transported via an auger or easily discharged into bags or a barrow.

* TriStor and TipStor silos are available for collection from in kit form from our premises in Lancashire or either of our regional hubs which are located in Holsworthy and Lampeter.

Small storage delivered and installed by Collinson . . . If your
feed firm blows feed directly into your silo but you haven’t got the time to
assemble the TriStor the T1 Range is for you, with models up to 22.9m³ to store
15 tonnes of pellets at 650kg/m³ the T1 is fully assembled at our premises,
delivered by specialist vehicles and erected onto your pre-prepared base ready
for use. Like the TriStor models are available to accommodate discharge into bags, a barrow or directly into your snacker or small trailer saving time and labour.

Contact us on 01995 606451 to discuss any of our storage solutions in greater detail

THE Rural Economy Grant Scheme, worth up to £60 million in total, will be launched from the end of February.

It will make available grants of up to £1m and is aimed at micro, small and medium businesses. The objective is to boost farm competiveness and support significant growth in particular for agri-food, rural tourism, forestry, renewable energy and high growth sectors.

Separately, there is £20m available under the already launched Farming and Forestry Improvement Scheme (FFIS) until December 2013. This scheme aims to help make your business more profitable and resilient whilst reducing the impact of farming on the environment.

With the second round of FFIS funds expected to open in April 2012 now is the right time to be completing your application.

FFIS grants are for capital items. “The grant rate available is up to 40 per cent in non upland areas, and up to 50 per cent in upland, and the maximum grant allowable per
project is £25,000. The minimum grant is £2,500.”

To be eligible for funding under FFIS the project must fall within one of the following key areas of activity:

Animal Health and Welfare

Nutrient Management

Energy Efficiency

Water Resource Management

Forestry

This may be a great opportunity to review and possibly improve animal health and welfare on your site. Collinson manufacture over 100 different models of silo to accommodate animal feed, Farm assurances state that feed should be stored in ‘covered clean containers’ and a silo is just that!

Storing feed in bulk silos ensures; there is no waste, feed is protected from vermin and as such reaches your animals in optimum condition, which is exactly what you are trying to achieve!
Compliment your silo with a Cyclone dust collector which attaches to the exhaust pipe to collect any dust laden air during filling, this keeps the base clean and vermin free.

Collinson also have a range of feeding systems for all sectors; pig, poultry and dairy these coupled with a reliable Rotaflex, Discaflex or Daltec conveyor will provide a hygienic, efficient system for storing and transporting your feed directly to your feeders.
